New Manager Appointment

The Board would like to welcome Allan Botha, as our new General Manager

Allan starts with us on Monday 28th July, and I'm sure you will all join the Board in welcoming him.

A PGA professional, originally from South Africa, where he worked as Head Professional at a number of top golf courses, Allan moved with his family to New Zealand and, initially in a coaching and retail role, then became Head Professional at Kauri Cliffs and was also Director of Golf, Retail & Coaching, at Mount Maunganui golf club. With excellent experience, Allan is looking forward to supporting the club with the opportunities that lie ahead.

Weather-related Delay to Play

In the instance of a weather-related (eg. frost or rain) delay to the start of play, bookings will be deleted on that day by the team in the office.  Our Green Keepers will advise the start time for the day’s play by 7.30am. If your booking is cancelled it is your responsibility to rebook for later in the day if you wish.  If the delay disrupts a player group competition we will do our best to accommodate as many players as possible. This does not guarantee play for all.

Replanting

In preparation of moving some of our established shrubs around the clubhouse we are potting them up until we a ready to plant after the building project.  If anyone has any spare pots, minimum of 150mm, please stack them around the flag pole garden.

Presidents Message

Well the weather has certainly improved the scoring this week the greens are now rolling well. 

The sand bins are now in place on the 5th and 15th please replenish your buckets to finish your round. Pitch marks must be repaired please look after our greens. 

Stage 2 of the number 1 cart path is almost ready for concrete. The removal of the Banksia tree to make way for stage 3 of the cart path towards the number 2 tee. 

Firewood sales are booming contact Colin Gee for orders. 

The retaining wall o the 12th is next on Swampys list for repair. 

Big shout out to John Herder for a great mid winter Christmas tournament on Friday. John has been running Frivolous Friday for near on 20 years. 

A Word Around The Greens

Great to see the sun shining for a change with clear crisp nights and sunny calm days.

We had our first proper frost of the winter this morning which is late as we normally would have had a few frosts by this stage of the winter.

As you would be noticing the couch grass fairways are looking a little brown, not as green in colour and less growth.

The reason for this is that the couch grass is a warm season grass, so thrives in summer temperatures. Once the soil temperature drops below 14deg the couch will go into winter dormancy as a coping mechanism to live through the cold winter months.

Once the soil temperature rises to around 20deg the couch will come out of its winter dormancy and start greening up with growth kicking in, this normally takes place in late spring into early summer.

Also a note from Me and the greens team about cart usage.

When we make the decision to say no carts or carts on paths only due to the course being wet through the winter months, this decision isn’t made lightly by me or the team but the decision is made based on protecting the course from unnecessary damage from carts.

9 Hole Ladies

In warm, sunny, dry weather we played Nett and Putting, LGU, Stableford Cup.  Some good scores came in (must have been the sun) with Jacqui Crossfield coming first with a nett of 33.  Putting was won by Jacqui Kerr (14 putts),  Yvonne Hoskins (15 putts),  Lyn Bird (15 putts).  The following ladies all came in with 16 putts and received a ball - Ann Trappitt, Rohanne Hancock, Shirley Johnstone, Bev Hansen.

Our interclub team played at Fairview last Monday and did our club proud.  They are currently sitting in first place overall.  Well done ladies.
