General Managers Message
Allan Botha

Kia ora members,

Course update:

A quick update on the course works: the new sump and drain line have now been installed. The new drain line runs underneath the 18th fairway, just in front of the 18th green. Thanks for all your patience earlier this week while we played the temporary 18th hole down the practice area – the work is completed now and the 18th is back in play.

The 10th fairway has been sprayed out in preparation for sowing couch. Please note that the 10th will play as a par 3, from the 17th of November onwards.

18 Hole Women leading the way:

The 18 Hole Women are leading the way in using the kiosk system’s new house account feature. On Tuesday morning 46 women played, of which 38 checked in using the house account payment feature on the kiosk and only 8 paid their haggle fees over the counter. This saves a lot of time in the office, and I would encourage more players to start using this feature. If you need guidance on how to use it, let us know and we’ll be happy to assist.

Shootout season:

At the moment a lot of player group shootouts are taking place with obviously some good golf being played under high pressure. Congratulations to our latest winners – 18H Women’s champion Cathy Berry and Men’s champion Greig Neilson. (See photo below)

**Calling all volunteers** – please come see the office if you’re looking for something to do. We require someone to assist us with pumping up the tyres on the golf carts.

Club Connections – A Walk Down Memory Lane

I had the real pleasure recently of meeting Steve Mexted, the builder of our beloved clubhouse here at Omokoroa Golf Club. Steve was joined by two good friends of mine from Mount Golf Club, Martin and Caren Van Der Meys, and together we shared a few laughs and some great stories from the past.

They reminisced about the Mexted Trophy, and the good old days of playing golf at Omokoroa—starting their rounds on the 11th hole after walking over from Steve’s house, which was somewhere near the 10th. It was a wonderful reminder of how far the club has come, and how strong the ties are between our golfing communities.

9 Hole Ladies
Yvonne Hoskins

This week in near perfect weather conditions we played our Shootout final.  This competition was closely contested with no less than three 'putt offs'.  Debbie Hardaker - with her new driver - played extremely well and is our new Shootout Champion. Runner Up is Yvonne Hoskins.  Congratulations Debbie.

The rest of the field had a stableford competition on the back nine and once again the scoring was close.  Winner was Sue Smith - 21;  Dianne Litten - 20;  Astrid Martin and Maria Wragg both with 19.  Well done ladies.

Last Monday our ladies were represented at the Champion of Champions at the Mt Maunganui Golf Club.  Sue Smith and Rohanne Hancock both had extremely good rounds.  Rohanne won best nett with a fantastic 31 and was runner up in the gross with a 44.  Our team came third= overall - along with Omanu and Te Puke.  Congratulations and well done Sue and Rohanne.

Men's World
Ben Van den Borst

Congratulations to the winner of last Saturdays shootout who was none other than our illustrious Club Captain Greig Neilson. Greg managed to just survive the first hole but was then steady enough for the rest of the day to outlast the ever young Hugh Moleta over 18 holes of shootout madness. By all accounts a great day was had by all the Shootout participants and special thanks again to our Sheriff John Reynolds and his trusty deputy Kevin Donald for running such a great event. Keep an eye out for information regarding next years shootout in a few weeks.

This Saturday is the Grand Slam event where the winners of our Saturday Club Competitions throughout the year can claim to be the Grand Slam champ. Good luck to all the participants in this event and hopefully you can manage a performance peak of more than once a year.

Following the conclusion of play this Saturday the Mens player group AGM will be held, it would be great to see as many of you there as possible. Mens members should have received an email with the reports attached so please feel free to read the reports before hand if possible. We would also normally hold the end of year prizegiving at the same time but we have decided to hold the prizegiving on another Saturday before the end of the year. If any trophy holders from last year still happen to have any trophies at home, can they please return them to the office as soon as possible.

I will look forward to seeing you at the AGM tomorrow, and happy golfing over the weekend!

Thank you to all our Sponsors

Saturday 1st November
Shootout Final

What a great day we had on Saturday! The Shootout was won by Cathy Berry, who beat Glenda Street on the 18th hole, in a chip off. It couldn’t have been closer.

The day was played in very good spirit, and was well controlled by Raewyn Stanaway, who did a wonderful job of keeping the field moving and making on course decisions. It is nice to see the event being all about playing golf rather than it being a memory game. She was assisted by markers, Annette Neeley and Maxine Cotter, and recorders, Chrissy Anderson and Jo Jory. A big thank you to all those ladies for giving up their day to help.

Thank you also to the Ladies Committee, especially Wendy Harris and Glenda Street for their organisation of this event, and procuring so much sponsorship. The prize bags were amazing, worth putting your name down and playing in it next year!

Presidents Message
John 'Swampy' Marsh

What a fantastic day we had yesterday at the Omokoroa Junior Open, the final Futures event of 2025! The course was buzzing with energy as over 100 junior golfers from across the region showcased their talent, sportsmanship, and love for the game. It was a true celebration of youth golf, and a proud moment for our club to host such a vibrant and competitive event.

A huge congratulations to Taupo Golf Club, who emerged victorious in this year’s Top of the Harbour series. In a thrilling finish, Taupo came from behind to overtake Futures Geyserland and Mount Golf, delivering a standout performance on the final day that sealed their win. Well done to all the teams who participated—you’ve made this series one to remember.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the day run smoothly—volunteers, parents, coaches, and our dedicated staff. Your support is what makes events like this possible.

Here’s to a strong finish to the year and an exciting 2026 ahead!

Cheers, Swampy
