Ho Ho Ho – Merry Christmas!
The festive season is here, and we’ve got plenty of exciting updates to share with you. Let’s dive in!

The Great Wall of Omokoroa Golf Club
You’ve all heard of the Great Wall of China… but have you seen our very own Great Wall? It’s impressive, it makes a statement, and it’s a testament to the hard work happening around the club.

?Click here to watch the video? (apologies for the scaffolding – progress takes time!)

Big News – Surcharge Removed!
Great news from the office and bar: the surcharge is gone for now!
Please use your PayWave card for a quick and easy way to pay for goods and services at the club.

House Account Top-Ups
A friendly reminder that you can only top up your house account using these methods:

  1. Over the counter in the office or bar
  2. Online through the app or website (note: a 5% convenience fee applies via DotGolf)

Thank you to everyone using their house accounts for haggle entries – you’re helping keep things running smoothly. You’re the best!

Driving Range Safety Reminder
For everyone’s safety, please remember that the range limit is 150m to 180m. Shots beyond this distance put golfers on the 9th and 18th holes directly in the firing line, which is extremely dangerous.

Additionally:

  • Golfers playing from the range back to their respective fairways always have right of way.
  • All range users must wait until the area is completely clear before hitting.
  • Staff and volunteers are monitoring this closely, but your
co-operation is essential to keep everyone safe.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all players.

A Word Around The Greens
Nathan Kerr, Head Greenkeeper

The golf course has been holding up well in the hot temperatures we have been getting in the last two weeks.  The couch fairways are in good condition and healthy heading into summer.  The coring carried out on the couch fairways is now proving its worth which is great to see.

The 10th fairway we have recently sowed in couch grass is establishing well with plenty of green couch growth now coming through.  This fairway should be back in play using a tee in the next 3-4 weeks or even sooner depending on weather conditions.

We have decided we will be laying turf around the practice bunker as the seed that was sowed has struggled and now the weeds have taken over.  To manage costs, turf will be removed from an out-of-play area on the 3rd fairway. This area is scheduled to be converted to couch grass next year and would be ripped up anyway, making it a sensible alternative to purchasing new turf.

We are sending the roller over the greens more often to pick the speed up of the green's.  During summer it is hard too keep them consistently rolling at a fast speed as we have to water them most nights to keep them alive in the heat and also the grass is growing faster on the greens in this heat.

Top dressing the greens with a light spread of sand also creates more firmness and speed so we are doing a sand top dress every two weeks on the greens to help this process.

Merry Christmas to you all and enjoy the festive season and your golf.

Men's World
Ben Van den Borst

Tomorrow is the first round of the shootout, so make sure you get your entry fee paid before play tomorrow if you want your round to count!

It is also the first round of the Summer Cup, which is the best 3 of 4 stableford scores over the summer break period. This year we are playing the summer cup from the Blue & White tee combination course ( which means no hitting over the pond on the 14th for those intimidated by that tee shot), so please make sure you tee off from the correct tee block. You will notice all holes from the blue tee have a small B in the column next to the hole number on the card, if there is no B then play from the white tee.

Also for the next few months we are trialling 3 divisions for our weekly haggle, and some changes to our closest to the pin and other special prizes. Please make sure you check the division the marker on the green applies to if you happen to have hit one close.

I hope you all have a great Christmas with family & friends and manage some time off from work (or other commitments for those ‘retired’ members) leaving plenty of time for Golf!

Cheers

Ben
