The Omokoroa Open took place last weekend and, as you all know, it was played in some truly severe weather conditions. Despite this, the spirit of the event shone through. A huge thank you to all our sponsors for their support, and to the 90-odd participants who braved the elements and still turned up to compete. Your commitment is what makes this event so special for our club.

A special acknowledgement must also go to our Greenkeeping team — Nathan, Rumble, and Shane — for the extra hours they put in over the weekend. Their hard work ensured the course wasn’t just playable but presented in the best condition possible given the circumstances. Outstanding effort, team.

Please see the attached Omokoroa Open Article for more details.

This week, I was absolutely blown away by young Sasha Apanui and the way he turns up for golf. Here’s a 10-year-old (soon to be 11!) who dresses like a true professional. Sasha, thank you for setting such a great example of what good golfing etiquette looks like when it comes to wearing the right attire. Keep it up — you’re inspiring members far older than yourself.

A quick course reminder:
Please continue to tee up your ball on the 10th fairway as it is still growing in. The growth has been excellent — Nathan reported strong recovery this week thanks to all the recent rain — but the team is still catching up on mowing after several days lost during last week’s storms. Your cooperation helps protect the new turf while it establishes.

Thank you all for your ongoing support of the club and for embodying what makes Omokoroa Golf Club such a great community.

Reminder no Friday Haggle on the 6th due to Waitangi day

Weekly Member Drop-In Session

In an effort to ensure accurate information is shared and to keep communication open, I will be making myself available on Tuesday, 3 February 2026 in the Marquee from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm

Feel free to grab a coffee and join me to discuss any issues, concerns, or ideas you may have. If I don’t have an immediate answer for you, I will make sure to follow up as soon as possible.

Your feedback and questions are always welcome—let’s keep the conversation going!

Fuel Up at the Caddie Shack – Because Golf Is Hard Enough

Allow to display images

Heading out for nine? Survived all 18? Or just popping by to look like you might play golf someday?
Either way, the Caddie Shack food truck has your back—and your stomach.

Grab a quick cabinet pick-me-up: fresh sandwiches, baked goodies, barista coffees, smoothies… basically everything your golf game wishes it could be—consistent.

After something a bit more serious? We’ve got the hot stuff: pies, sausage rolls, toasties, hot chips, fish bites, mini hot dogs… all the essential fuels for both champions and “character builders.”

Combo deals are available too—because saving a few bucks always feels like a win (even if your scorecard doesn’t).

And a shout-out to our PaR n.z. Twilight Series golfers—the pre-order food option went brilliantly. Twilight players, give it a try! Your food will be ready exactly when you are… even if your swing isn’t.

Support your on-course Caddie Shack and we’ll keep the cravings (and the golf-hanger) far, far away.

Opening Day 2026

It's not long now until our Opening Day Tournament on Sunday 8 February! I'm expecting that this event will fill up quickly so be sure to get your entry in soon! There will be a super-special prize table on offer so don't miss out!

The format for this event will be a three-person Ambrose. You can enter a team of three or we can make up a team for you. The entry fee for members is $25 and guests are welcome.

This will be a nett event, which makes scoring super-easy. You'll receive a blank scorecard for your team and all you need to do is:

  • write down your names and handicap indexes in the Marker/Partner columns
  • add up your handicap indexes and write the total in the Handicap Index Box
  • divide this number by six and write it in the Playing Handicap box
  • record your strokes for each hole, easy!

This will be a shotgun start from 9am. Please note that shotgun starts are a challenge to get underway, so here are some key points:

  • nominate one person on your team to make payment and get your team scorecard
  • arrive early to dodge the queue
  • make sure you're stocked up with tees and snacks beforehand.

9 Hole Ladies
Yvonne Hoskins

Thursday this week was our Opening Day for the 2026 golfing season.  We had a large field on a very pleasant fine day.  We played '4 colours' a game of team stableford.  The winning teams from both front and back nine received a gift from the Chemist Warehouse.  Thank you to the grounds people for their hard work getting the course in the condition that it is in, after some adverse weather conditions.

No haggle last week

The haggle tomorrow (31st Jan ) will be a Net round off the white tees and will also be 1st round of the Reg Carter cup.

Reminder of some changes.

Based on recent feedback, we’re introducing a few changes to hopefully make the Haggle fairer. There are now three divisions, (top 5 payout) and each division will have its own designated hole for ‘Nearest to the Pin.’ Please check the markers to see which hole applies to your division.

Hi Men,
Kerry here with a quick but important reminder. Our Pennants teams are playing this Sunday, and at the moment only half the players have shirts available. If you still have a club Pennants shirt, please return it to the office as soon as possible — washed and ready to go.

Kerry will be collecting all shirts from the office tomorrow, Saturday 31 January, at 5pm.
Your prompt help ensures all our players are properly kitted out for the weekend. Thanks, team!

Thank you to all our Sponsors

Have you seen the newly planted area left of the 10th Green?
Our golfing gardeners were joined by Omokoroa Pest Free vegetation control volunteers yesterday (Thursday) to plant over 200 Phormium Cookiianum (Wharariki), a small black stemmed flax which produces yellow flower heads.  Fifteen energetic volunteers were the proverbial ‘Many hands made light work’ and the job was completed within the hour.  These mountain flaxes will be joined a few month’s time by kowhahi trees, by the retaining wall and the smaller Flagellifera Carex grasses at the front.  The planting is part of the Course Master Plan which will reduce maintenance and difficult to mow areas around the course.  A big thank you to the team of volunteers from our community, our Green Fingers team and Environmental Whakamarama Omokoroa Coordinator Leonie Johnsen, who funded the delicious drinks from our own Caddie Shack afterwards.
Please note – This newly planted area is a trial off ‘Out of Bounds’.  So if you land in the new planting you will be required to take Stroke and Distance as per Rule 18.2
Anyone keen to join the Green Fingers Group text Lynda Smith  on 027 2235246 for further information.
