General Managers Message
Allan Botha

Kia ora Members,

I’d like to start with a big thank you to everyone involved in the recent coring programme. The process went very well, with Nathan getting started on Sunday 22 March at 1.00pm, giving us a head start ahead of the volunteer teams. By Monday, 11 greens were already completed, and from there it was a race against the weather to get the remainder finished.

Nathan and his team put in extra hours on both Monday and Tuesday to make sure we got the job done, particularly as the sand needed to be moved into the cores before the rain arrived on Thursday. Their effort and commitment did not go unnoticed.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who turned up to help. On Tuesday, I did a quick head count and, in my group, alone we had around five volunteers, with another five or six working in the second group. Your time and support make a massive difference, and the club is truly grateful to everyone who pitched in.

Wet Weather Update – Course Closure

Over the past few days we have experienced exceptionally heavy rainfall, with close to 200mm recorded since Thursday. As a result, significant areas of the course are currently flooded and ground conditions are unsuitable for play.

After assessing the situation, we have made the decision to close the course for tomorrow, Saturday 28 March 2026, to protect the course after coring and ensure member safety.

Nathan, our Head Greenkeeper, will reassess course conditions again tomorrow and will make a call on whether the course can reopen on Sunday, depending on how quickly conditions improve.

We appreciate your understanding during periods of extreme weather and will keep members updated as further decisions are made.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Finally, from Saturday onwards, food service will be operating out of the bar area. We’ll be offering:

  • Sandwiches – $6
  • Pies – $8
  • Coffee or hot drink – $4 (automatic machine)

The bar will continue to open from 12pm, as usual. However, coffee and food can be purchased through the office before the bar opens, and once the bar is open, all transactions will go through the bar point of sale

Thanks again for your ongoing support of the club.

It was with great sadness that we learnt of Wayne Wright’s death last Saturday.

In recent times Wayne has been a regular participant in club social events and is a past club member. Over the past year Wayne served as a member of the new club house funding committee.

As long -time residents of Omokoroa Wayne and his late wife Chloe have been neighbours of the club, since our inception in the late 1970’s. Over the years many community focussed charities and projects both locally and nation-wide have greatly benefited from the generous philanthropy of Wayne and Chloe and this legacy continues.

Wayne’s funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity, Tauranga, commencing at 11.00 am, this coming Saturday morning.

Rest in Peace Wayne.

A Word Around The Greens
Nathan Kerr, Head Greenkeeper

The greens have now been cored and sanded.

The staff and I have put in some big days to get the job completed before another Extreme rain event hit us on Thursday morning.

Next week the greens will need to be lightly dusted with some more sand as some greens still have a few empty core holes that need to be filled with sand.

Proud of my the staff and our volunteers dedication to get the job done before we got the heavy rain and wind, a great result considering the weather extremes we knew we were going to face later in the week.

As I write this the golf course is very flooded with 270ml of rain already recorded from our rain gauge here on the course so the decision has been made to keep the course closed for tomorrow, Saturday golf, and a decision will be made tomorrow late afternoon on course playability for Sunday as that will depend on what the weather does in the next 24 hours and an update will be posted on the club website when the decision has been made.

Stay safe and dry.
