General Managers Message
Allan Botha

Another week gone by! It always feels a little strange at this time of year just how quickly the weeks fly by as we start heading towards the end of the year.

We kicked this week off on the back of last Saturday’s Fashion Show, and what a great event it was. A huge well done to MJ and the Links team for pulling it all together. I attended and participated, which was, as they say in the fashion world, fabulous! Read more from MJ below and make sure you check out the hot models strutting their stuff!

From glamour to something slightly less glamorous, but equally exciting...

The 13th Toilet is Back in Play!

After months of work behind the scenes, the on-course toilet at the 13th is finally back in play.

A big thank you to the Volunteers and Board and, in particular, Daryl Muir, who has put a huge amount of time and effort into getting this project across the line. This included getting the facility connected to the Council lines and installing solar power to operate the pump required because of its location.

And perhaps the best news of all...

AGM Minutes & Vets Pairs

Also attached is a draft of the 2027 AGM Minutes. Please have a read through and let me know if you spot anything that needs changing or correcting.

You’ll also find information attached for the Vets Pairs event in November. If you haven’t registered yet, get your entry in now, and while you’re at it, round up a few mates and bring them along as well.

It’s one of the best Vets events in the Bay of Plenty, expertly run by the Ians, so let’s get behind it and make it another fantastic event.

Expression of Interest.

At our Board meeting a few weeks ago, we identified that we would like to bring some additional members onto two important Club groups:

  • CAG, Course Advisory Group
  • Communication and Marketing Committee

Both groups provide members with a great opportunity to contribute ideas, experience and fresh thinking to the future of Omokoroa Golf Club.

If you have an interest in either of these areas and would like to get involved, please complete the relevant form below. We would really appreciate hearing from members who are keen to contribute and help shape the next chapter of our Club.

Fashion Show Fundraiser

Mary Jane Leuch

On the evening of Saturday, 26 September, the beautiful new Omokoroa Golf Club hosted a Fashion Parade to raise funds to help purchase new outdoor furniture for our terraces.

We welcomed 192 beautifully dressed guests, along with organisers and helpers, who were treated to a lively and entertaining evening of fashion, auctions and raffles.

The evening was made extra special by our five female and five male models, most of whom were club members. They did a fantastic job and certainly added plenty of fun and personality to the night.

The kitchen created 24 beautiful table platters, while the bar was extremely busy, which is always a good indication of a happy and successful evening!

The help of Mike Berry and Darryl Muir with our new audiovisual system was invaluable. Running a new system for the first time can always bring a few little glitches, and their assistance was greatly appreciated.

We were privileged to showcase garments from George Edward in Bethlehem, Chalk and Charcoal in the Te Puna Shopping Centre, The Tauranga Club Room and Golf 360.

We could not have made the evening such a success without the incredibly generous support of our sponsors and the many businesses and individuals from within our community who donated prizes and their time. To everyone who contributed, thank you for helping make the evening so special.

As a last note, the silent auctions were run by an experienced guest auctioneer who has no direct connection to the Club or Barfoot and Thompson. The auctioneer’s preamble was off script, and his comments were not the views of the Omokoroa Golf Club nor the Club’s sponsor Barfoot and Thompson.  We apologise for this transcreation, and I wish to assure all present that there was no mandate for this to happen.

This event was expertly lead by MJ and her team, the Links café team and our courageous models who collectively raised sufficient funds, with additional support from generous members, to ensure that we  can now place an order for the all the outdoor furniture required to complete the fitout of the Clubhouse. Thank you to all members who have been a part of this amazing project.

Kind regards,
Mary Jane Leuch

Photos from the evening were taken by Andrew McWilliam and Andy Sim of the Omokoroa Photographic Society Inc.

Kaimai Shield – Sunday 11 October

Our inter-club match for the Kaimai Shield is on Sunday 11 October at Morrinsville, against Morrinsville and Omanu golf clubs. All 18-hole members are welcome to join.

Entry is $40 per player. That covers your competition entry, the green fee at Morrinsville and a seat on the charter coach there. It's a great chance to play a different course, meet golfers from other clubs and represent Omokoroa. We'd love a strong turnout!

Thanks to the Board for supporting this - club events like this are a great way to strengthen club culture.

To enter, email the Club Captain at clubcaptain@omokoroagolf.co.nz. Limited space available.

We'll confirm coach departure details closer to the day, but it will be around 7.00am.

Girls Interprovincial Matchplay Championship

Anya Apanui is currently playing in this event, being held at Springfield Golf Course in Rotorua. She is playing number 1 for the BOP team, and so far they have beaten Waikato, Manawatu-Wanganui and Hawkes Bay. They lost to Auckland and Canterbury, so will play off today for 3rd and 4th vs Harbour. Go BOP Team and Anya!

And some more news about the Apanui family sporting prowess. I went to watch the NZ Gymnastic Championships, being held at the Mercury Arena, and had much delight in watching Anya’s younger sister, Vivienne, win the bronze medal in the All Round at Step 7. A very impressive performance, especially on the beam!
